Warren Township Teacher Surprised with Colts Classroom Quarterback of the Year Award
Creston Intermediate and Middle School erupted in celebration when fifth-grade math teacher Delaun Robinson was surprised with the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Colts Classroom Quarterback of the Year award, honoring his impact both inside and outside the classroom. Cheered on by students, Colts representatives, and community leaders, Robinson was recognized for the kind of dedication and mentorship that reaches far beyond math class.
What began as a normal school day at Creston Intermediate and Middle School quickly turned into an emotional celebration when fifth-grade math teacher Delaun Robinson was surprised with the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Colts Classroom Quarterback of the Year award.
Students lined the hallways cheering loudly as Colts representatives, cheerleaders, and community leaders surprised Robinson with the statewide honor. The moment left the Warren Township educator visibly overwhelmed as the entire school celebrated his impact on students and the community.
“In short, overwhelmed,” Robinson said afterward. “In a good way, excited, very grateful.”
Former Colts offensive lineman Joe Reitz said Robinson stood out among thousands of nominations from across Indiana because of his service both inside and outside the classroom.
“For his service to the school, to the community, to his local church and all the positive impact that Mr. Robinson brings, he ended up being the winner,” Reitz said.

The celebration was especially meaningful for Robinson because of the reaction from his students.

Creston Principal Dr. Todd Nailon said Robinson’s recognition reflects the type of educator he is every day.
“He’s a phenomenal teacher,” Nailon said. “The kids love him, and him being a Black male role model makes a world of a difference.”
Indiana Anthem Medicaid Marketing Director Tiffany Etter said the award is about recognizing educators who pour themselves into students daily.
“When we see adults pouring themselves into children and helping them become successful people, we want to reward that,” Etter said.
For one unforgettable afternoon, the halls of Creston were filled with pride, emotion, and appreciation for a teacher whose impact clearly reaches far beyond math class.
