Walker Career Center is receiving statewide recognition after earning two honors through the 2026 Indiana Awards for Excellence, highlighting both the strength of its Health Sciences program and the achievements of one of its standout students.

The Walker Career Center Health Sciences Pathway was named the recipient of the Outstanding Secondary Program of Study award, recognizing it as one of Indiana’s top career and technical education programs. Led by instructors Jessica Lawson, Christina Steigerwalt, Katherine Veguilla, and Victoria West, the program prepares students for healthcare careers through pathways in Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), and Dental Assisting. Students gain hands-on clinical experience, earn industry-recognized credentials, and often secure employment before graduation. Partnerships with local healthcare providers and Ivy Tech Community College help ensure students are workforce-ready.

In addition, Walker Career Center senior Lucy Miller was honored as an Outstanding Secondary CTE Student. The Warren Central High School senior ranks eighth in her class of 795 and is pursuing her CNA certification while preparing to attend Butler University on a pre-medicine track. Lucy hopes to become a pediatric cardiologist and credits her Health Sciences experiences for helping shape her career goals.
