A new chapter in community-centered banking has begun in Indianapolis with the opening of Generations Community Bank, led by President and CEO Al London. With nearly three decades of banking experience, London brings both industry expertise and a deeply personal commitment to service.
“For me, this was an opportunity to stay in an industry I love while honoring my upbringing and giving access to a community I now call home,” London shared.
Designated as a Minority Depository Institution (MDI), Generations is focused on serving underserved and overlooked communities. Its mission is clear: to “facilitate economic growth and mobility…with the goal to build wealth in these communities for generations to come.”
But London emphasizes that the bank is about more than transactions. “We’re not here just to open accounts or fund loans—we’re here to grant access and build long-lasting relationships,” he said. A key part of that mission includes demystifying banking by slowing down, educating customers, and explaining financial decisions in ways that empower individuals to make informed choices.

Strategically located near key neighborhoods, Generations is intentionally positioned to be accessible. “You have to be proximate to the people you aim to serve,” London noted, pointing to the bank’s presence in diverse and underserved areas.
Equally intentional is the bank’s staffing. Rather than focusing on quotas, Generations prioritized hiring experienced professionals who are passionate about the community. The result is a diverse leadership team that reflects the people they serve. “You’re going to see folks that look like you…that’s how we begin to build trust,” London said.
In addition to traditional banking services, Generations Community Bank is committed to financial education, small business support, and homeownership pathways—key pillars in building generational wealth. London envisions the bank as a trusted hub where individuals can not only manage money but also gain the knowledge and confidence to grow it. As the doors open, the mission is already in motion: to create lasting impact, one relationship at a time.
